Oscar 2020 winners Are

The 2020 Oscars happened on Sunday night, and through a night dedicated to honoring the simplest and brightest cinematic accomplishments of the previous year, director Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite was the large winner.

Bong’s dark thriller scored four wins, including the most important prize of the night, Best Picture. And in doing so, it became the primary International feature within the Oscars’ 92-year history to win that award. Previously, only 10 non-English-language films had ever been nominated for the distinguished prize.

Meanwhile, the frontrunners within the four acting categories — Brad Pitt (Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Laura Dern (Supporting Actress for Marriage Story), Joaquin Phoenix (Lead Actor for Joker), and Reneé Zellweger (Lead Actress for Judy) — held form and took home Oscars in their respective categories.

1917, a serious frontrunner for Best Picture going into the awards, won three of the ten trophies it had been nominated for: Cinematography, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects.

Joker, the most-nominated film overall with 11 nods, won two: Original Score and Lead Actor for Joaquin Phoenix.
