  • The First Kashmir War 1947-48

After Independence in 1947, a separate country born out of India i.e.  Pakistan. The Independence Act, 1947 states that any princely state that was earlier a part of the British Empire has given a freedom of choice to join  any dominion India or Pakistan. A hindu ruler of Dogra dynasty, Maharaja Hari Singh ruled the muslim majority of then Kashmir. He chose to remain independent from supremacy of India and Pakistan until Pakistan entered his territory forcefully with the intention of dominating it. Hari Singh approached Jawahar Lal Nehru and sought the help of Indian defence forces to fight back Pakistan. Nehru agreed to help only if Kashmir declared to be part of Indian territory. Hari Singh signed “Document of Accession” on 2nd October 1948 and joined India as per special articles to be kept under the constitution of India.

The war between India and Pakistan was fought between October 1947 – December 1948. The United Nation Organisation put an end to this war by passing a ceasefire resolution on 1 January 1949. This resolution entrenched a “Ceasefire line” to diverge kashmir into areas dominated by India and Pakistan. 

The Indian Naval force has always worked in concurrence with the other defence forces for combating any enemy attack. There are many youngsters who are zealous for joining the Naval forces of India.   • The Sino – Indian Wars

This war was a result of a dispute regarding the drawing of a “McMohan Line” . As the convention held in Shimla from 1913 to 1914 between Britain, Tibet and China, this border was divided by Britain and Tibet. China did not accept the “McMohan Line” on the basis that their government did not sign an agreement, India claims it to be the border. As a result, Aksai Chin in northwestern Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh have become disputed areas.

The McMohan Line has increased the area of India northward and pushed its frontier upto 100 km towards Tibet. Consequently, Tawang was established in India. Moreover, in northeast Kashmir Trans-Karakoram Tract is a disputed area between China and India. As per Sino-Pakistan Agreement signed on 2nd March 1963, Pakistan gave control over this area to China. This transfer was agreed on a condition that it will be effective upto settlement of Kashmir dispute. India proffered conflict with China and Pakistan on the same day and claims the area under Indian dominance. 

  • The Indo-Pakistan War of 1971

This is also named as Bangladesh Liberation War. this war started from 3 December to 16 December 1971. Prime minister Indira Gandhi was considering expulsion of Pakistani Army and Airforce from southern Azad Kashmir. To deter India’s attack against Pakistan, the US deployed its seventh fleet to West Bengal. As on 16 December 1971, Pakistan signed the “Document of Surrender” and 93000 soldiers of Pakistan were made prisoners of war. India was successful in damaging most of the Karachi base along with PNS Khyber, PNS Ghazni, PNS Shah Jahan, PNS Muhafiz and 7 gunboats as operation Trident and operation python were launched.
